As of the morning of Monday, 14 September, the neighbourhoods of Villaggio degli Sposi and Loreto are now connected by a new pedestrian and cycle path running from Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital railway station to Parco Beata Cittadini. The underpass—opened to coincide with the reopening of schools and the European Mobility Week—is part of the broader development project linked to the new accommodation hub on Via Briantea.

This significant infrastructure investment, worth nearly €1 million, also includes the construction of an 80-space car park on the Briantea side. The 500-metre-long cycle path runs beneath both Via Briantea and the railway line to Carnate, connecting the Loreto sports fields area with Via Brambilla, which borders the southern edge of the hospital.

The underpass serves a strategic role, linking the Longuelo school campus with the hospital area and the provincial transport network.

Bergamo’s cycling infrastructure continues to expand, with plans already in place for an extension next year that will connect this new segment to Treviolo. Once completed, cyclists will be able to cross the entire east-west axis of the city via dedicated bike lanes.
